Creating a 'Deaf-Friendly' Atmosphere for Deaf

Biography:
Roger J. Carver was born in Newark, New Jersey, USA to
hearing parents. He has an older deaf brother. He attended Bruce St.
School for the Deaf in Newark along with his brother. Both were
mainstreamed at age 10 and eventually graduated from high school.
They also attended Gallaudet College where Roger met and married
Michelle Desrosiers, a Deaf student from Regina, Saskatchewan,
Canada. Shortly after graduation, both Roger and Michelle settled
into Regina for one year before moving on to Edmonton where they
lived for 17 years. They then relocated to the Vancouver, British
Columbia, area ten years ago where they still live. They have two
adult sons who are now married, and they just became grandparents
this fall! Roger enjoys gardening, cooking, reading, writing, doing
genealogical research, and solving crossword puzzles. He also has
written and published numerous articles on issues pertaining to
deafness and deaf children and people.
